Opinions on the question

The question: Should the penalty for drinking in Ramadan be increased?

First opinion · Sunni tradition (the museum's frame)Main reference

The book gives the narration from Ata on his father's authority and treats the second twenty lashes as ta'zir for defiance and for breaking the fast; it does not rule on combining hadd with ta'zir {cite:sallabi-ali-vol1 p. 306}.

Ali frees two men who each confessed to one killing and pays the diya from the treasury

Two men each confessed to the same killing before Ali. Hasan's ruling was that the one who had killed had saved a life by confessing; Ali released both and paid the diya from the treasury. The book suggests the victim's heirs may have waived retaliation.
