Sus (Khuzistan)

At al-Sus the monks and priests called down from the walls: our learned men left word that none shall open Sus but the Dajjal or an army containing him — when Safi ibn Sayyad strode to the gate in a rage, kicked it and cried «Infitah bi-zar!«, the chains snapped, the locks broke, and the army poured in. Told that Daniel's body lay in the city, Abu Sabra answered: «What is that to me!« and left it in their hands 1.

Summary

The Muslims besieged Sus, which was held by Shahriyar, brother of Hurmuzan, and skirmished with its defenders several times. The monks and priests looked down on them from the walls and said: "Our scholars have handed down to us that Sus will not be opened except by the Dajjal, or by a people among whom is the Dajjal." Safi ibn Sayyad was with the horsemen of al-Nu'man; he came to the gate of Sus and struck it with his foot in anger, saying: "Open, Bazhar!" The chains snapped, the bolts broke, the gates opened, and the Muslims entered; the polytheists threw down their arms and called for terms. Abu Sabra was told: "This is the body of Daniel in this city." He said: "What is that to me?" and left it in their hands. 1

The Asawira's Conversion Compact

Siyah al-Uswari led Yazdgard's vanguard; sent to Ahwaz he camped at al-Kalbaniyya while Abu Musa besieged al-Sus — then seeing Islam's ascendancy he offered: we enter your religion, fight your enemies among the Persians, fight none of you in your internal disputes, you defend us if Arabs attack, we settle where we wish among you and rank in the highest stipend — compact sealed with the amir. Abu Musa countered 'you have what we have and owe what we owe'; they refused, so he wrote Umar, who wrote back: grant them all they asked.
