Summary
Majid bin Said, the first Sultan of Zanzibar, died at Zanzibar on 7 October 1870, aged 35 or 36. 1
Burial and succession
He was buried in the Makusurani Cemetery. He left no son, and his brother Barghash succeeded him. 1 His reign had begun on 19 October 1856, and during it the succession dispute with Thuwaini ended in the Canning Award of 2 April 1861, a British arbitration that split the dominions into two sultanates. This record does not place that award in Zanzibar, because the sources do not say it happened there. 1
