Damascus → Cairo

Ibn Taymiyya's enemies cast doubt on his Wasitiyya, written shortly before the Mongols entered Damascus. Two councils at the governor's residence on 8 and 12 Rajab 705/24 and 28 January 1306 found it 'in conformity with the Qur'an and the Sunna'; when the qadi al-qudat Ibn al-Sarsari reopened the matter, a third council on 7 Sha'ban 705/22 February 1306 again declined to condemn it, and Ibn al-Sarsari resigned. The two adversaries were sent to Cairo, arriving on 22 Ramadan 705/7 April 1306. The next day a citadel council of Egypt's four chief qadis convicted him of anthropomorphism; he remained in the Cairo citadel about a year and a half, released on 26 Rabi' I 707/25 September 1307 through the intercession of the amir Salar and the Bedouin amir Muhanna ibn Isa 1.

Al-Subki summoned to Egypt, then restored at Damascus, 743/1342

In Jumada I 743 the post brought a summons calling chief qadi Taqi al-Din al-Subki to Egypt as its judge; he rode out with the courier while the notables saw him off. He returned to his bench in Damascus on Sunday 8 Rajab carrying a decree of the khitaba as well — but the populace rioted in favour of their own khatib Ibn al-Jalal until al-Subki ceded the pulpit to him and kept the judgeship.
