Overview

Ibn al-Imad, in "Fragments of Gold", reports that in 700 AH rumours of the Tatars grew strong. In Rabi al-Akhir Ghazan crossed the Euphrates with his army and headed for Aleppo. 2

In Damascus and Cairo

Shaykh Taqi al-Din ibn Taymiyya rode by post to Cairo to urge the people to jihad, and he met the great emirs. It was proclaimed in Damascus that whoever could flee should save himself, so the city was turned upside down and people crowded into the citadel. The price of transport rose, and goods were sold for the lowest prices. 2

The fear eased when Ghazan withdrew because of the hardships and the snow he met. 2
