Summary
On the second day of Shawwal in the year 970 AH there was a great and terrible flood in Hadramawt, the like of which had not been heard of. It destroyed much of that region and ruined many palm trees. 1.
How it is remembered by its people
The people of the region remember it and date events by it; they call it the flood of the crown (sayl al-iklil). The jurist Abd Allah ibn Ahmad ibn Fallah al-Hadrami included its date in a verse, saying: a flood in the valley of Hadramawt harmed ... in the sleep of the crown of stars you slept. 1.
