Overview

'Abd al-Mughith b. Zuhayr al-Harbi, Abu'l-'Aziz Ibn Harb the Hanbali, muhaddith of Baghdad; born around 500, he heard Abu'l-Qasim Ibn al-Husayn, Ibn Kadish and others, devoted himself to the craft and acquired the fundamentals, never ceasing to hear until he was hearing from his own peers; he read fiqh under the qadi Abu'l-Husayn Ibn al-Farra'. 1

His life and death

Righteous, devout, truthful, trustworthy, striving to follow the sunna and the reports; he collected, wrote and transmitted, blessed until he transmitted all his riwayas and the great ones heard from him. Ibn al-Hanbali said, "I heard from him; he was a hafiz, an ascetic, scrupulous — when I saw him I imagined Ahmad b. Hanbal, for he was short." He died on the night of Sunday 13 Muharram and was buried at the takka of Imam Ahmad's grave. 1
