Overview
Abu Ghanim Bishr b. Ghanim al-Khurasani was an Ibadi jurist, a native of Khurasan, active at the end of the second/eighth and the beginning of the third/ninth century. The encyclopaedia's entry, signed by T. Lewicki, is headed "ABU GHANIM BISR B. GHANIM AL-KHURASANI" on the page image; the printed text gives the heading in clipped form. 1
Al-Mudawwana
On his way to the Rustamid imam 'Abd al-Wahhab (168-208/784-823) at Tahart, to offer him his book al-Mudawwana, he stayed with the Ibadi shaykh Abu Hafs 'Amrus b. Fath of Jabal Nafusa. 'Amrus made a copy that preserved the book in the Maghrib. The encyclopaedia says the Mudawwana is the oldest Ibadi treatise on general jurisprudence, transmitting the teaching of Abu 'Ubayda Muslim al-Tamimi (d. under al-Mansur, 136-158/754-775) through his disciples. The copy was in twelve parts, and its titles are listed in the catalogue of Ibadi books by Abu l-Qasim al-Barradi (8th/14th century). The book has become very rare: according to S. Smogorzewski, a unique manuscript was held by an Ibadi shaykh at Guerrara in the Mzab. 1
