Early life and education
Adi Hidayat was born in Pandeglang on 11 September 1984 to Warso Supena and Rafiah Akhyar, one of five siblings. He began at TK Pertiwi Pandeglang and the town's primary schools, where he was a top student who gave the children's sermon at graduation ceremonies, and also studied at the Madrasah Salafiyah Sanusiyah until 1997. He then attended the Darul Arqam Muhammadiyah pesantren in Garut for his secondary schooling; his most influential teacher there was Buya K.H. Miskun as-Syatibi, and he graduated as an exemplary student in both religious and general subjects. 2
In 2003 he was admitted to the Faculty of Islamic Studies programme of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta run with Al-Azhar University, then in 2005 accepted a special invitation to the Islamic Call College in Tripoli, Libya. In Libya he studied the Qur'an, hadith, fiqh and its principles, history and language intensively, specialising in Arabic language and literature; his Qur'an teachers included Shaykh Dukkali Muhammad al-Alim, and in fiqh and usul he studied under, among others, the Libyan mufti Shaykh al-Rabithi and Wahbah al-Zuhaili. He took his bachelor's degree at the Call College in Tripoli (2005–2009) and a master's at the same institution, and later received honorary doctorates, among them one in Islamic education management from Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta in 2023. 2 1
Beginnings and career
At the end of 2009 he was appointed amin al-khutaba — head of the preachers' council — of the Islamic Call Mosque in Tripoli, choosing its preachers and lecturers, and took part in Libyan television programmes and international interfaith dialogues. Returning to Indonesia in early 2011, he ran the al-Qur'an al-Hikmah pesantren at Lebak Bulus, then moved to Bekasi in 2013 and founded the Quantum Akhyar Institute, an Islamic-studies and dawah-development foundation running programmes such as the UAH Open School, an ulama-training scheme and the At-Taisir Learning Center; in November 2016 he founded Akhyar TV as his main dawah medium alongside his YouTube channel. 2 1
In February 2023 he became First Vice-Chairman of the Preaching Assembly of Muhammadiyah's central board. He has spoken at international gatherings, including Muhammadiyah's 48th congress in 2022 and the IMSA–IMSG conference in Boston in December 2022, and in June 2024 addressed the Islamic Heritage Festival in Selangor, Malaysia, on Imam al-Nawawi and his Riyadh al-Salihin. 2
Projects and initiatives
In 2021 he launched a virtual pesantren named Mira (Ma'had Islam Rafiah Akhyar). In May 2021 his "Palestina Memanggil" (Palestine Calling) campaign raised about Rp 30.83 billion in six days, distributed — as the article's audited tables record — through the International Networking for Humanitarian for relief, through the Indonesian Ulema Council toward the Indonesian Hospital in Hebron, and through Lazis Muhammadiyah and the national zakat board for Palestinian student scholarships. 2
Perspectives and criticism
This section sets out positions as reported in the sources; it is not a verdict by the museum. Adi Hidayat was criticised for defining the theological schools of qadariyah and jabariyah in one sermon in a way critics held to be reversed: he defined qadar as God's decree fixed from eternity and taqdir as tied to human striving, contrary to the readings in commentaries such as Quraish Shihab's Tafsir Al-Mishbah. The preacher Firanda Andirja met him directly to verify the matter (tabayun) and explained that the two definitions were inverted, as the article reports. 2
Books
He has written more than a dozen books in Arabic and Indonesian, among them Minhatul Jalil (2010), Quantum Arabic Metode Akhyar (2011), Ma'rifatul Insan (2012), Muslim Zaman Now: Hafal al-Qur'an dalam 30 Hari (2018) and Metode At-Taisir (2019). 2
Reach
His YouTube channel had about 6.18 million subscribers by vidIQ's count read on 2 November 2026, and his Instagram account 5.7 million followers in the English article's channel box (dated 31 August 2026) — dated platform figures, not facts verified by the museum. 1
