Overview

Shihab al-Din Ahmad al-Bukhari by origin, of Mecca, the Hanafi; born at Mecca in Safar 883, he gave himself to learning, reading under al-Sakhawi in Sunan Abi Dawud and al-Shifa', entering Cairo repeatedly and hearing hadith from a company including the hafiz al-Daymi and Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti. 1

His offices

He donned the kharqa of tasawwuf from one of the shaykhs and held the high offices — the judgeship, the imamate, the shaykhdom; some licensed him; he read the Six Books and more and heard much fiqh and hadith — a strong memory with fine preaching and eloquence. He died at Jeddah at noon on Saturday 10 Rabi' II, was carried to Mecca and buried at al-Ma'la. 1
