Overview
Al-Kamil, lord of Mayyafariqin — king in 645; learned, virtuous, brave, just, beneficent to his subjects, devout and scrupulous — none in his house equalled him. 1
His end
The Tatars besieged him twenty months until the townsfolk perished by plague and famine, then entered and captured him; Hulagu struck off his head after the taking of Aleppo, paraded it, then hung it on the Bab al-Faradis — the Muslims then buried him at the Mosque of the Head inside the gate. Al-Dhahabi reports: "it reached me that the Tatars entered the town and found in it seventy souls where there had been many thousands." 1
