Overview
Al-Salih Isma'il b. al-Malik al-'Adil, lord of Damascus of the Ayyubid house; his father al-'Adil had seized him with al-Jamus in 521. 2
Damascus and Beaufort
He stormed Damascus in Safar 637, taking the city and its citadel, and in 638 surrendered Beaufort castle to the Franks — for which the Muslims loathed him; he jailed al-'Izz b. 'Abd al-Salam and Abu 'Amr b. al-Hajib for denouncing it. The Mamluks of al-Salih took him after Turanshah's murder and killed him. 1 3
