Summary
Al-Taqi al-Bayyi', the great sahib; a merchant who came to Syria after the Tatars took Baghdad and ran the bay'iyya at the dar al-wakala, then farmed it under al-Zahir. He served al-Mansur and lent him sixty thousand interest-free; when al-Mansur took power he granted him the dar al-wakala, wrote off a hundred thousand dirhams owed, made him secretary of the treasury, then vizier of Syria — and he served as vizier to five kings: al-Ashraf, al-Mansur, al-'Adil Kitbugha, Lajin and al-Nasir. 1
