Summary
Amin al-Dawla al-Samiri, vizier of al-Malik al-Salih Najm al-Din Ayyub; a Samiri of Baalbek's people, converted and became Muslim. He was a physician-katib versed in insha' and medicine — his beginnings were making ink and handling remedies — then he mastered the diwan and became intimate with the sultan, to the point of saying in intimate prayer: 'My God, You alone know my inmost heart; I consulted neither You nor another in it, yet You judge between me and You.' 1
His end
When al-Malik al-Mu'azzam Turanshah took power, they confronted him and seized from him twelve million dinars or more; he said 'this is my sacred trust, release me — or give me from it for the year's expenses.' His neck was struck and he was burned. 1
