Overview
Ibn Sana' al-Dawla, chief qadi; he heard al-Khashu'i and read fiqh under his father the chief qadi Shams al-Din and under Fakhr al-Din Ibn 'Asakir — few grew up like him in self-guarding, piety and industry. 1
His judgeship and teaching
He deputised for his father, held the agency of the Bayt al-Mal, taught at the Iqbaliyya and elsewhere, then held the judgeship independently for a time until deposed, continuing to teach the Iqbaliyya and Jarukhiyya; he had taught at the great 'Adiliyya and the Nasiriyya — the first to teach there — and the hafiz al-Dimyati produced a mu'jam for him. Al-Dhahabi calls him "of laudable conduct in the judgeship, gentle of side, well-managing and forbearing"; returning from Hulagu ailing, death caught him at Baalbek. 1
