Atabeg of the Seljuk princes

Ayaz, amir and lord of Hamadhan, played an important part in the struggles for the throne between the rival Seljuk princes Barkiyaruk and Muhammad I. He first took the side of Muhammad, but in 494/1100 went over to Barkiyaruk. After Barkiyaruk's death he became atabeg of Barkiyaruk's son Malikshah, who was a minor. He could not hold his own against Muhammad, and was treacherously murdered by him in 499/1105. 1
