Summary

Mawla Burhan al-Din Ibrahim al-Hasib al-Nasib, one of the Ottoman mawlas and a Hanafi. His father was one of the notables of Persia who moved to Anatolia and settled in a village near Amasya. He was a great saint with recorded marvels. His son grew up in his care, with chastity and self-control. He travelled to Bursa in search of knowledge, studied with Shaykh Sinan al-Din, then entered the service of Mawla Hasan al-Samuni and later preferred the service of Mawla Khwaja-zada 2.

The House of Abu Ayyub

He held teaching posts until he became a teacher at the madrasa of Sultan Bayezid, on a pension of one hundred Ottoman coins. When Sultan Selim took the throne, he bought a house for him near the tomb of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may God be pleased with him). That house is now an endowment for whoever teaches at the Abu Ayyub madrasa. He lived unmarried all his life, although his father pressed him to marry. He kept apart from people for learning and worship, and was ascetic and devout, treating gold and dirt alike. Near the end of his life he went blind, but after treatment he regained some of his sight. He died in the year 935 and was buried beside the Abu Ayyub al-Ansari mosque 1.
