Summary
Daud Kim (born Kim Jae-han on 21 July 1992 in Seoul) is a South Korean singer and YouTuber who began uploading as the singer Jay Kim, embraced Islam in September 2019, and became South Korea's best-known Muslim content creator. {cite:source/starsunfolded-daud-kim} {cite:source/wikitubia-daud-kim} His YouTube channel counted 8.45 million subscribers and 4.33 billion total views in vidIQ statistics updated on 4 November 2026. {cite:source/vidiq-daud-kim}
Early life and education
Kim was raised Catholic, with the Christian name David, and studied music at Dankook University in Yongin, specialising in singing. {cite:source/starsunfolded-daud-kim} He served in the Republic of Korea Army as a singer in the Capital Defense Command band in 2013–2014. {cite:source/starsunfolded-daud-kim}
Beginnings and career
Kim started his YouTube channel in 2013 and posted his first singing videos in 2014, covering songs in translation and making reaction videos. {cite:source/starsunfolded-daud-kim} Live streaming on Bigo Live built him a large fan base in Malaysia and Indonesia, and by his own account a fan meeting in Jakarta changed his view of Muslims. {cite:source/starsunfolded-daud-kim}
Conversion to Islam
After the Jakarta meeting Kim began studying Islam and reading a Korean translation of the Qur'an, filming a January 2019 video titled "Why am I interested in Islam?" while still identifying as non-religious. {cite:source/starsunfolded-daud-kim} He embraced Islam in September 2019 — the Wikitubia profile gives 25 September 2019 — taking the name Daud. {cite:source/starsunfolded-daud-kim} {cite:source/wikitubia-daud-kim} His content since centres on his life as a Muslim in Korea — language videos, reactions to Pakistani and Indian content and music covers — and he performed Umrah in 2022. {cite:source/wikitubia-daud-kim} {cite:source/starsunfolded-daud-kim}
The Incheon mosque project
Kim launched a fundraising campaign to build a mosque and Islamic centre in Korea, posting bank details and asking his followers to contribute. {cite:source/wikitubia-daud-kim} {cite:source/starsunfolded-daud-kim} On 13 April 2024 he announced he had signed a contract to buy 284.4 m² of land on Yeongjong Island, Incheon, for 189.2 million won, to build a prayer place and an Islamic podcast studio "for D'awah to Koreans". {cite:source/starsunfolded-daud-kim} Local residents protested that the site stood near schools and homes; the landowner asked to cancel the contract, saying he had not known of the mosque plan, and Kim agreed to the cancellation, while the Korea Muslim Federation stated the project was an unregistered personal project unrelated to it. {cite:source/starsunfolded-daud-kim} The Wikitubia profile, by contrast, states that the mosque was completed in 2024; the two accounts conflict, this record verified neither, and both are presented attributed and unreconciled. {cite:source/wikitubia-daud-kim}
Positions and criticism
What follows are events attributed to their sources, not verdicts of the museum. In 2020 a woman publicly accused Kim on TikTok of attempted rape in an incident dated 27 June 2019; he apologised in a YouTube video, saying he had been drunk at the time and that his lawyer had reached a settlement with the woman — as reported in the Korea Times-derived account in his biography profile. {cite:source/starsunfolded-daud-kim} Some critics have also publicly questioned the motives behind his conversion, while millions follow his content as a window on Muslim life in Korea. {cite:source/wikitubia-daud-kim}
Influence and audience
Kim is the largest Muslim presence in Korean content creation: his channel @jaehankim66 began on 23 August 2013 and holds 1,712 videos, and vidIQ counted 8.45 million subscribers for it in November 2026. {cite:source/vidiq-daud-kim} At the time of the mosque announcement in April 2024, press coverage credited him with about 5.52 million YouTube subscribers and 3.5 million Instagram followers. {cite:source/starsunfolded-daud-kim}
