Family and early life
Wong Wai Hung was born in Jinjang, Kuala Lumpur, into a Chinese Buddhist family, moved in his youth to freethinking, and then began a long search through religions that led him to Islam. {cite:source/idtp-study-guide-firdaus-wong} Per his official biography in the International Da'wah Training Programme study guide, he embraced Islam in 2005 at the age of 22 — Malaysian reporting gives the date as 10 August 2005 — but practised fully only from 2011, after meeting Sheikh Hussain Yee. {cite:source/idtp-study-guide-firdaus-wong}
Beginnings and career
Firdaus Wong has worked full-time in dawah since 2013, trained with IPSI in Penang, and finished in the top three of the 2016 International Dawah Training Programme (IDTP) organised and led by Zakir Naik in Mumbai. {cite:source/idtp-study-guide-firdaus-wong} He lectures in Malaysia and abroad on comparative religion and appears on television programmes such as those of TV Al-Hijrah. {cite:source/idtp-study-guide-firdaus-wong}
Projects and initiatives
He founded Multiracial Reverted Muslims (MRM) in Kuala Lumpur and serves as its president; MRM is a non-profit dawah organisation that supports new Muslims and presents Islam across Malaysia's ethnic communities. {cite:source/idtp-study-guide-firdaus-wong} Malay Mail reported in January 2015 that he had founded MRM in 2010 and that some thousand of its volunteers distributed tracts across Peninsular Malaysia in December 2014, with his own estimate of 15,000 to 20,000 people reached. {cite:source/malay-mail-mrm-2015} He also owns the MyKampung Fresh Mart grocery store in Shah Alam, opened in 2020 per press reporting. {cite:source/focus-malaysia-firdaus-wong-2024}
Positions and criticism
What follows are events and claims attributed to their sources, not verdicts of the museum. In March 2024 Firdaus Wong was the first to viralise the affair of socks bearing the word "Allah" sold at KK Super Mart stores, an affair that shook Malaysia at the time. {cite:source/focus-malaysia-firdaus-wong-2024} Focus Malaysia recorded that conspiracy theories circulated claiming the affair had been engineered to benefit his own store, and the paper presented those claims as theories in circulation, not established facts. {cite:source/focus-malaysia-firdaus-wong-2024}
Personal life
This record keeps to what his official biography publishes: his birth into a Buddhist family, his freethinker period and his conversion in 2005, without expanding on his private family. {cite:source/idtp-study-guide-firdaus-wong}
Influence and audience
Firdaus Wong is among Malaysia's most prominent comparative-religion preachers of the convert generation, his audience mostly young Malay Muslims per Focus Malaysia's description. {cite:source/focus-malaysia-firdaus-wong-2024} His last verifiable published platform figures remain those of March 2024 — more than 540,000 Facebook and more than 350,000 Instagram followers — because no newer counter could be opened from this session, and this record claims no current count. {cite:source/focus-malaysia-firdaus-wong-2024}
