Overview

Taqi al-Din Ibn Abi'l-Hijr Hamid b. Mahmud al-Harrani — shaykh of Harran, its khatib, teacher and mufti; born 513 at Harran, he travelled to Baghdad, heard the hafiz 'Abd al-Wahhab al-Anmati and others, read fiqh there, excelled and debated, and met Shaykh 'Abd al-Qadir, keeping close to him — the shaykh saw him one day walking upon his own prayer-carpet and said, "It is as though you already tread the sultan's carpet" — and so it was. 1

Nur al-Din's madrasa

Nur al-Din Mahmud built him a madrasa at Harran and handed it to him; he taught there and took charge of building Harran's congregational mosque. A company of Harran's people took knowledge from him, among them the khatib Fakhr al-Din Ibn Taymiyya and Ibn 'Abdus. He died with seven nights left of Shawwal 570 at Harran. 1
