Overview

Khan-i Jahan Junan Shah was the son of the vizier Khan-i Jahan Maqbul Tilangani and served Sultan Firuz Shah Tughluq as vizier after his father for some twenty years. 2 3 The inscription over the east gate of the Kali Masjid at Nizamuddin names its builder as "Junan Shah Maqbul, entitled Khan-i Jahan, son of Khan-i Jahan" and dates it AH 772. 1

His mosques

He is known to have built seven congregational mosques in and around Delhi and was, the author reports, called a prince of builders. 1 3 Inscriptions give him the Kali Masjid at Nizamuddin and the Kalan Masjid at Turkman Gate, finished in Jumada II 789/1387; modern accounts attribute to him, without an inscription, the Khirki Masjid, the Begumpur mosque and the Kalu Sarai mosque. 2 3 4 5 The author says the Kalan Masjid was completed in the last year of his life, a year before the sultan's death. 3
