Overview

Abu 'Abd al-Rahman Muqbil ibn Hadi al-Wadi'i is a modern hadith scholar, presented here from what his introduction to the Dar al-Haramayn edition of the [[work/al-mustadrak-ala-al-sahihayn|Mustadrak]] tells us; the introduction is dated 4 Rabi' I 1414 AH. 2

His work on the Mustadrak

He began recording his notes on the Mustadrak while at the Institute of the Meccan Haram, twenty years before writing the introduction, and later gathered them in [[work/al-tatabbu-li-ma-fi-al-mustadrak-min-awham|al-Tatabbu' li-ma fi al-Mustadrak min awham]]. 3 In the introduction he mentions that he included the hadith "Whoever I am the patron of, 'Ali is his patron" in his book al-Sahih al-Musnad mimma laysa fi al-Sahihayn. 4 He also notes that he traced the hadiths of al-Daraqutni's [[work/al-ilzamat-ala-sahih-al-bukhari|al-Ilzamat]] in his annotations on it. 5

His approach in the introduction

In the introduction he gathers what the hadith imams said of al-Hakim, in praise and in criticism, adding his own comments on some of it, as when he calls Ibn Tahir's description of al-Hakim as a liar and a deceiver an exaggeration. 6 See also how al-Hakim's authentications in the Mustadrak are to be treated.
