Overview
Qarwash ibn al-Muqallad, amir of the Banu 'Uqayl at Mosul; al-Qadir sat him in 396 and titled him Mu'tamad al-Dawla, then he held the emirate alone over Mosul, Kufa and both banks of the Euphrates, displacing Ibn Mazyad. He married two sisters together — when the Arabs blamed him he said "what else should I practise than what the Law permits?" — and would say "on my neck are only five or six Bedouin I killed; as for townsfolk, God does not care"; the Fatimid al-Hakim of Egypt corresponded with him and courted him until he had the da'wa proclaimed for him at Mosul and Kufa, then apologised to al-Qadir. 2
The Ghuzz and death
The Ghuzz entered Mosul in 435, seized his harem and plundered over two hundred thousand dinars from his house, so he and Dubays ibn 'Ali ibn Mazyad joined to destroy them and inflicted a great slaughter; he died in 442 and Quraysh ibn Badran ibn al-Muqallad took the command after him. 2
