    Summary

Sri Mulyani Indrawati (born 26 August 1962) is an Indonesian economist who served as minister of finance from 2016 to 2025 under Presidents Joko Widodo and Prabowo Subianto, having also held the post under President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono between 2005 and 2010 — the first person to serve as Indonesia's finance minister under three successive presidents 1.

    Life

Sri Mulyani was born in Tanjung Karang (now Bandar Lampung) in Lampung, Sumatra, on 26 August 1962, the seventh child of the university lecturers Professor Satmoko and Retno Sriningsih 1 2. She took a BA in economics from the University of Indonesia in 1986 and then studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, receiving an MSc in policy economics in 1990 and a PhD in economics in 1992; she lectured at the University of Indonesia, worked as a USAID consultant in Atlanta from 2001, and from 2002 to 2004 was an executive director on the board of the IMF representing twelve Southeast Asian economies 1.

    Work

Appointed finance minister in 2005, she fired 150 corrupt tax and customs officers, reformed the tax and customs offices, and saw foreign direct investment rise to $8.9 billion in her first year; Euromoney named her Finance Minister of the Year in 2006, and Indonesia grew 6.6 percent in 2007, its fastest rate since the Asian financial crisis 1. She defended the 2008 bailout of Bank Century, which cost the state about 6.7 trillion rupiah, against accusations of criminality, denying any wrongdoing 1. In May 2010 she resigned and became a managing director of the World Bank, returning as finance minister in 2016; FinanceAsia named her the Asia-Pacific's best finance minister three years running, from 2017 to 2019 1. Reappointed by President Prabowo in October 2024, she was dismissed on 8 September 2025 after the August-September 2025 protests, in which her South Tangerang home was looted, and was replaced by Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa 1. No text read for this record names a faith for Sri Mulyani herself — the articles are silent, and Wikidata's generic Islam statement is structured data that settles nothing and names no school — so her faith is recorded as unknown 1 3 2.
