    Summary

Walid Regragui is a Moroccan football manager and former player who was born in Corbeil-Essonnes, France, on 23 September 1975.12 His full name is given as Hoalid Regragui.1 As head coach of Morocco he led the team to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup — the first African and Arab team to reach that stage — and to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.1

    Early life

Regragui was born in Corbeil-Essonnes, a commune on the Seine in the southern suburbs of Paris.2 The Arabic article records that he grew up in the Montconseil district in a Moroccan family originating from Fnideq in northern Morocco.2

    Playing career

Regragui played as a right-back, beginning at Racing Paris and Toulouse before three seasons at Ajaccio, where he won the Ligue 2 title and was named the division's best defender.12 He later played for Racing Santander in Spain, Dijon and Grenoble in France, and Moghreb Tétouan in Morocco.1 For Morocco he won 44 caps and was a runner-up at the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations, where he was named in the team of the tournament.1

    Managerial career

After working as Morocco's assistant coach, Regragui took charge of FUS Rabat in 2014, winning the Moroccan Throne Cup in his first season and the Botola in 2015–16, the club's first league title.12 He won the Qatar Stars League with Al-Duhail in 2019–20, then joined Wydad AC in 2021 and won both the Botola and the CAF Champions League in 2021–22.1 Appointed Morocco's head coach on 31 August 2022, weeks before the World Cup, he led the team to fourth place in Qatar, made Morocco the first African nation to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, and won the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil before resigning on 5 March 2026.1 He was named CAF Coach of the Year for 2023.2

    Positions and criticism

This section presents the positions found in the sources; it is not a verdict by the museum. Neither article states Regragui's religion: the English article has no personal-life section, and the Arabic article's infobox has no religion field and its text makes no statement.12 Unsourced Arabic web pages of the "what is his religion" genre describe him as a Sunni Muslim, resting on his Moroccan upbringing and on his televised prostrations of gratitude at the 2022 World Cup; those pages copy one another and name no source, and upbringing and public practice are not attestations of a school.2 As no source names a faith or a school for him personally under the museum's two-source rule, his faith is recorded in the museum's data as unknown.12
