Summary

Zayn al-Din 'Ali ibn Kuchuk ibn Baktakin al-Turkmani, the famous horseman and lord of Irbil. He was nicknamed Kuchuk — in Arabic, the slim-waisted short one — yet known for prodigious strength and gallantry. He rebelled against al-Muqtafi, disobeyed him, then kept to obedience; he was generous, lavish, just and of good conduct. It is said he passed a hundred; he died in Dhu'l-Hijja 563. 1
