Summary
Al-Mu'allim is the debut album of the British singer Sami Yusuf, released by Awakening Records in 2003, the year the label signed him as its first artist. 1 2 3 The Guardian explains that its title, "The Teacher", is a reference to the Prophet. 2
Its impact
The Guardian reported in 2012, from the label, that the album sold 3 million copies, and that with the second album, My Ummah, it led Time magazine to describe Sami Yusuf as "Islam's biggest rock star" and set the bar for the burgeoning Islamic music industry. 2 It quotes the co-founder Wali-ur Rahman saying the success was instant and unprepared for, and that the label's website kept crashing from the traffic to its music videos. 2 The figure is the label's, attributed as such.
Still to do
The Wikipedia articles on the album are short in every language and give no cited track list, so the museum leaves the track list out until a source that gives one is read. 1
