Summary
Dorar al-Saniyya is an Islamic website devoted to publishing Islamic encyclopedias, owned by the Dorar al-Saniyya Foundation, which describes itself as a scholarly waqf foundation. 1 2
Its aim, as the foundation states it
The foundation says its aim is to preserve the Sunna and the legacy of prophethood in its full sense; its mission, a well-founded method, documented transmission and comprehensive knowledge with quality content and worldwide reach; its vision, a scholarly reference on the method of Ahl al-Sunna wa-l-Jama'a for Muslims everywhere, made easy to reach through modern technology; and its goal, the largest electronic database of that legacy. 2 This is the foundation's account of itself.
Beginnings
The site's earliest capture in the Internet Archive is dated 17 November 2001, titled "al-Durar al-Saniyya", with sections for the shaykh's books, selected books, files and programs, library indexes, an al-Albani encyclopedia, and articles and research. 3 The site's copyright line today begins in 1421 AH. 2
The encyclopedias
The site holds encyclopedias of tafsir; of hadith, gathering the hadith scholars' grades with a search; of creed; of religions; of sects; of fiqh; of legal theory and legal maxims; of ethics and of Islamic manners; of history; and of the Arabic language, with a section on widely circulated hadith that are not sound. 2 1 The Arabic article says the tafsir encyclopedia was prepared under the supervision of Alawi ibn Abd al-Qadir al-Saqqaf, and that several encyclopedias have phone apps; the site now also offers an API to them. 1 2
Today
The site is active at dorar.net in Arabic with an English version, and has articles in the Arabic and Urdu Wikipedias. 4
