Summary

The Anugerah Industri Muzik (Malaysian Music Industry Awards) is the main award of Malaysia's recording industry, organised every year by the Malaysian Music Industry Academy association with the support of the Recording Industry Association of Malaysia and recognised by the Malaysian government; it began in 1993, with its first ceremony on 15 December 1993. 1 2

The award

Singers, composers, lyricists, musicians and album-cover and video designers from Malaysia and Singapore compete for it, judged by respected members of the industry. 1 Ernst & Young audited the results from the start; after a controversy over the 2011 winners, KPMG took over. 1

The nasyid categories

Its yearly categories include Best Nasyid Song, and it had a Best Nasyid Album category, discontinued with the other album categories after the 17th edition because too few albums were being released. It also has the category of best Malay song performed by a foreign artist, in which Maher Zain was nominated in 2011 for the Malay version of 'Insha Allah' from Thank You Allah, and the Kembara award for Malaysian artists' achievements abroad. 1 3

Still to do

The Malay article's table of editions names each year's best album, among them two nasheed groups' albums, but its rows carry no citations, so the museum records no individual honours from it until the official winners' list is read. 1

Platinum album certification

A sales certification given by record companies or national music-industry bodies to an album that reached a set sales threshold in one country; the museum records the certification, the territory and the certifying body as the sources state them, and treats sales figures as attributed, not fixed facts.
