Wet dream (ihtilam)

احتلام

Ihtilam is emission of semen during sleep; it happens to both men and women. 1 On how it is realised in a woman, the jurists differ: the Hanbalis, the Hanafis in the apparent report, and the Shafi'is for a married woman hold that it occurs when the fluid reaches the outer part of the private parts; the Malikis hold that it occurs when it leaves the passage. 1 A man who finds wetness without remembering a dream must perform ghusl by the majority; where he doubts between semen and madhy the views differ. 2 3 Ihtilam does not affect fasting, and by agreement it marks puberty. 3 4

Biting and the liability for injury it causes (add)

In the lexicon, add is gripping a thing with the teeth and holding it. If a person bites another without right and a wound results, the biter must pay the damages for the wound, assessed as a just award by experts. If one man bites another's hand and the bitten man pulls it free so that the biter's front teeth fall out, most jurists hold that there is no liability, relying on a prophetic judgement in such a case; the Shafi'is limit this to a bitten man who chose the easiest means of release, and the preferred Maliki view requires compensation.
