Summary
Bahrasir is the old city, the Lower Mada'in on the west bank. Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas sent Zuhra ibn Hawiyya ahead to it, and Shirazad, the dihqan of Sabat, made peace with him on payment of the jizya. Hashim ibn Utba, known as al-Muqarrat, defeated the battalion of Buran, daughter of Kisra, whose members had sworn that the kingdom of Persia would not fall as long as they lived; he also killed a lion that Kisra had kept tame. Sa'd kissed his head, and Hashim kissed Sa'd's foot. When the Muslims reached the city and saw the Iwan, Dirar ibn al-Khattab said: "God is greatest! The white (palace) of Kisra! This is what God and His Messenger promised." He cried takbir, and the people cried takbir with him whenever a group arrived. Their encampment there was in Dhu al-Hijja of the year 15. 1.
