A key for the Kaaba of steel inlaid with silver, 29 cm long, which the Nuhad Es-Said collection booklet (Riyadh 1985) dates to the circa 740/1340 and attributes, probably, to Mecca. 1

Significance

The booklet's introduction says the collection's two Kaaba keys, probably made in Mecca itself, illustrate a little-known aspect of the thriving Hijazi artistic tradition of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. 2 3
