Overview

The Shafi'i jurist of Tus called Abu'l-Fath al-Haddad; he read fiqh and was favoured by the Imam al-Haramayn, who delighted in his eloquence and fine speech, taught during the Imam's lifetime, then held the judgeship of Tus until dismissed — as al-Ghazali was granted fortune in fine composition, this one was granted it in debate and refined expression. 1

Praise

Al-Dhahabi said he was the most learned of Tus's people alongside al-Ghazali, and among the wittiest of his age; he died in Dhu'l-Qa'da 500 at ninety-two. 1
