    Overview

Al-Kamal Salar al-Irbili, mufti and instructor of Syria, companion of Ibn al-Salah, shaykh of the companions and tutor of students; he read fiqh under Ibn al-Salah until he excelled in the madhhab, advanced, led — and the people needed him. 1

    His repetition and death

He was mu'id at the Badra'iyya — its waqif appointed him — and held it till death: benefiting, repeating, writing, annotating, composing, gathering, spreading the madhhab, taking no other post; he abridged al-Ruyani's Bahr in several volumes. A company of companions profited from him including Shaykh Muhyi'l-Din al-Nawawi who praised him well; Sharif 'Izz al-Din said: in his time Syria's fatwa turned on him. 1
