The judge Kamal al-Din Muhammad al-Jini of Hama, then of Cairo, a Shafiʿi. He was the foremost of the notables and the secretary of secrets in Egypt. He was born in Hama in Dhu al-Hijja 796 AH, memorised the Qur'an, and read jurisprudence with the hafiz Burhan al-Din al-Halabi, known as al-Quff.
