Summary

Zuhayr al-Shawish is named in the book as the owner of al-Maktab al-Islami; he published Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani, whom he calls "our teacher"; he supervised the printing of Sahih al-Jami' al-Saghir wa-Ziyadatuh. 1 3

His work on Sahih al-Jami'

He says that at his suggestion he began printing the book in Damascus in 1388 AH in small parts, from drafts al-Albani kept for review and had not prepared for print, then reprinted it photographically; renewing it was long impossible because neither of them was settled in one country, until al-Albani left him free to reissue it. 4 For the new edition he corrected errors, moved hadiths between the sound and weak parts according to al-Albani's revised views, added references to al-Albani's books printed since the first edition, arranged the hadiths by fiqh chapters, and added a glossary and notes signed "Zuhayr" or "Z". 5 He dated the preface 1 Ramadan 1405 AH. 6

Al-Albani says they agreed to publish the book in instalments, and that Zuhayr suggested printing an inner number for the Ziyada hadiths in place of the letter zay. 3 7

Asdaf al-Lu'lu': Shells of Pearl

A filmed Ramadan programme of thirty episodes in Abu Ishaq al-Heweny's home: each episode tours his library, along the shelves of hadith, fiqh, legal theory, history and tafsir, then an interview in which he tells his scholarly life through books, from his boyhood literary reading and the first book he bought to his teachers, al-Albani and Kishk, his trials and his preaching, then his works and projects, closing with a tribute to his companion Shukri. The title is never spoken and the interviewer is not named.
