Summary
Abdallah ibn al-Zubayr's sermon at Mecca from the pulpit during his caliphate, collected in the Jamhara among his sermons and those of his mother Asma bint Abi Bakr (may God be pleased with her). 1
Details
Ibn al-Zubayr preached at Mecca and declared: "People, by God I am not the caliph who was rendered helpless" — meaning Uthman — "nor the caliph who outwitted" — meaning Muawiya — "nor the boy caliph" — meaning Yazid; "whoever moves his head thus at us, we answer him with the sword thus." 1
The sermon is an open political statement of Ibn al-Zubayr's manner of rule from the Meccan pulpit, placed in the Jamhara's chapter on Ibn al-Zubayr and his mother Asma within the Umayyad-era section. 1
