Summary

My First Al-Qur'an, known as MyFA, is an Indonesian children's Qur'an launched by the Syaamil Group of Bandung in 2010, one of about fifty Qur'an editions the group publishes. 1

Context

In Indonesia the Ministry of Religious Affairs' Lajnah Pentashihan Mushaf oversees published Qur'ans, and any translation distributed must be the official Ministry translation or be checked and authorised by it, so publishers tend to use the official one. 1

What it contains

It comes in two parts: the Arabic mushaf in two volumes, and the translation in two volumes, which reproduces the 2004 edition of the official translation verbatim, with the sira, stories of the prophets, a map of the Prophet's da'wa journeys, "Now I Know" notes on verses and figures, and an Arabic–Indonesian–English dictionary, printed on coloured paper with a durable cover. 1 Yulia Riswan finds the formal official translation ill-suited to children and some additions unrelated to the verses beside them. 1

The publisher

The Syaamil Group, renamed the Sygma Group, grew rapidly between 2010 and 2012, with MyFA among its most successful products, sold with an e-pen; the group states that it prints only with halal-certified materials and that staff handling the mushaf are in a state of ritual purity. 1

De Koran: uitleg voor kinderen (Abdul Wahid van Bommel)

The first interpretation of the Qur'an for children in Dutch, by Abdul Wahid van Bommel, an imam and professor at the Islamic University of Rotterdam, in a series of volumes, the first in 2017, the second in 2020 and the third in 2024, each centred on one of the five resolute prophets; he translates the selected verses himself and explains them in a 'philosophising with children' style for ages ten to fourteen, with illustrations by the Bosnian artist Senad Alić.
