Summary

An Other Cup is the twelfth studio album of the British singer Yusuf Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens. It was released in Germany on 10 November 2006, in the United Kingdom and the United States on 13 November and worldwide on 14 November. 1 2 It was his first Western pop album since Back to Earth (1978) and his first studio album under the name Yusuf. 1

What it is

The album was recorded between April and August 2006, produced by Yusuf with Rick Nowels and released on his label Ya with Polydor in the UK and Europe and Atlantic in the US and Canada; it runs 44 minutes and 21 seconds. 1 The cover credits "Yusuf" with a label calling him "the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens"; he told CBS News that those looking for Cat Stevens would probably find him in the record, and those looking for Yusuf should go a bit deeper. 1 On the BBC's Andrew Marr Show he said the turning point was his son bringing a guitar back into the house, and he told USA Today he thought it important to help bridge cultural gaps. 1

The songs

All the songs are Yusuf's except 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood' by Bennie Benjamin, Gloria Caldwell and Sol Marcus. The list includes 'Midday (Avoid City After Dark)', 'Heaven/Where True Love Goes', 'Maybe There's a World', 'One Day at a Time', 'When Butterflies Leave', 'In the End', 'I Think I See the Light', 'Whispers from a Spiritual Garden', 'The Beloved' and 'Greenfields, Golden Sands', with 'There Is Peace' added to the UK edition. 1

Reach

The album reached number 2 in Austria and on the German albums chart, 14 on the Swiss, 81 on the French, 16 on Sverigetopplistan, 17 on VG-lista, 22 on the Italian chart, 69 on the Dutch Album Top 100, 99 in Flanders and 20 on the UK Albums Chart, and stayed in the German and Austrian year-end charts of 2006 and 2007. 1
