Summary

Dawud ibn Ali's sermon in the Kufa mosque after the Umayyad defeat. He thanks God for destroying the enemy and speaks of the house's right to rule. Histories transmit it in several versions.

Safwat's Jamharat, volume 3, transmits the sermon from al-Tabari and Ibn Abi al-Hadid. Dawud opens by praising God for the destruction of the enemy, then says that the truth was uncovered after a long concealment. 1

He recounts the deprivation the Prophet ﷺ's house suffered and then its victory, and gives the right to rule to those he regards as entitled to it. The museum does not settle that claim here; it attributes the words to their speaker. 1

The sermon is dated after the killing of Marwan ibn Muhammad, when Abbasid rule was consolidating. 1
