Summary

Sha'rawi holds that God preserved His speech so that it would be a proof for people, and that no fact of the universe can collide with the Qur'an, because the one who created the universe is the one who spoke it 1.

The argument

He notes that some people say they received the Qur'an and memorised it. He replies that the one who preserved it is God, and that since God preserved His speech, He knows that the whole of existence will not conflict with it 1. He cites the verse that speaks of the guarding of the reminder 1.

The seven ahruf

The Prophet's saying 'the Qur'an was revealed in seven ahruf, so read of it what is easy' — narrated through Umar's dispute with Hisham ibn Hakim over Surat al-Furqan; its exact meaning is one of the widest debates in Qur'anic sciences.
