Summary

'Abd al-Warith b. Sufyan b. Jabrun b. Sulayman of Cordoba (317–395 AH) was one of the teachers from whom Ibn 'Abd al-Barr transmitted most, and the channel through which he received the learning of Qasim b. Asbagh. 1

His companionship with Qasim b. Asbagh

He began studying with Qasim b. Asbagh in 333 AH and heard most of his transmissions, becoming the most reliable authority on him and his most constant companion. 1 Al-Humaydi quotes Ibn 'Abd al-Barr as saying that he was among those who kept closest to Qasim and the best known in Cordoba for his company — it was said that hardly anything read to Qasim escaped him — and that he had seen many of Qasim's original copies and found 'Abd al-Warith's hearing recorded in all of them. 1

What Ibn 'Abd al-Barr took from him

Ibn 'Abd al-Barr read with him Qasim b. Asbagh's Musannaf on the Sunan, and Ibn Qutayba's al-Ma'arif and Sharh Gharib al-Hadith, as al-Humaydi records. 1
