Overview

Qasim ibn Asbagh, a hadith scholar of Cordoba. According to al-Maqqari in "Nafh al-Tib", he came to Iraq in 276 AH with his companion Muhammad ibn Ayman, and they found that Abu Dawud had died shortly before they arrived. Each of them then compiled a book of sunan arranged by the chapters of Abu Dawud's book. 2

Qasim abridged his book and called the abridgement "al-Mujtana". He began the abridgement in Muharram 324 AH and named it after al-Hakam al-Mustansir. It contains 2,490 hadiths with full chains of transmission, in seven volumes. He was born on Monday, 10 Dhu al-Hijja 147 AH. 2

There is an apparent disagreement between the dates mentioned and his year of birth, which needs review.
