ابن عبد البر
Abu 'Amr Ibn 'Abd al-Barr of Cordoba, imam of his age in hadith and athar — al-Baji said there was none like him in al-Andalus, 'the most memorising of the Maghreb's people'; his Tamhid on the Muwatta' in seventy parts drew Ibn Hazm's verdict that nothing on fiqh al-hadith equals it 1.

Overview
Abu Umar Yusuf ibn Abdallah ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Barr al-Namari al-Qurtubi. Ibn Khallikan describes him as the imam of his age in hadith and in transmitted reports and what relates to them. 2
Teachers and the praise of scholars
He transmitted from Khalaf ibn al-Qasim the hafiz, Abd al-Warith ibn Sufyan, Abu al-Walid al-Baji and Abu al-Walid ibn al-Farradi. Ibn Khallikan relays al-Baji's words that there was no one in al-Andalus like Abu Umar in hadith, and that he had the best memory of the people of the Maghrib. 2
His works
He wrote several useful books on the Muwatta' of Malik, among them al-Tamhid, arranged by the names of Malik's teachers, in seventy volumes. Ibn Khallikan relays Ibn Hazm's statement that he knew of no one who spoke on the jurisprudence of hadith as he did. 2
