Overview

The Monastery of Tur stands on a round mountain, Mount Tur, which is wide at its base, between Tiberias and al-Jawn. It overlooks the Ghawr, the meadow and Tiberias. 1

Al-Umari's description

It has a plentiful spring, and a monastery built of stone on the qibla side, with many vineyards around it that its people press. It is known as the Monastery of the Transfiguration, because its people claim, according to al-Umari, that Jesus appeared to his disciples there. 1
