The creation of the horse
خلق الخيل
In Ibn 'Abbas's telling God gathered the south wind, Gabriel took a fistful, and the bay horse was made — spoils led on its back, good knotted in its forelock, its neigh a terror, marked with blaze and white socks; Adam chose it over the mule-formed Buraq and was told he had chosen his and his sons' glory 1.

Overview
Al-Masudi transmits a report from Ibn Abbas on the creation of the horse. 1
The report
God revealed to the South Wind that He was creating from it a creature. Gabriel took a handful from it, and God created from it a dark bay horse. He made spoils led on its back, good tied to its forelock, blessed its neighing to terrify the polytheists, and marked it with a white blaze and white stockings. 1
Adam and the horse
The report says that Adam was given a choice between the horse and the buraq, and the form of the buraq in it is that of a mule, neither male nor female. He chose the horse, and it was said to him that he had chosen his own honour and the honour of his offspring. 1
