Overview
al-Suyuti reports that in 381 AH the ruler of Mecca, Abu al-Futuh al-Hasan ibn Ja'far al-Alawi, summoned people to his own allegiance, took the title al-Rashid bi-Allah, and was greeted as caliph. The ruler of Egypt was alarmed. Abu al-Futuh's position then weakened, and he returned to the obedience of al-Aziz the Ubaydid. 1
The date rests on a single report; its conversion to CE is derived. An additional source is needed to confirm the year.
