Overview

Sultan Murad I arrived with his armies at Kosovo in the Balkans. Fighting broke out and ended in a victory for the Muslims. 2

After the battle

al-Sallabi relates that the sultan went out to inspect the field of battle, praying for the dead and reassuring the wounded. A Serbian soldier who had feigned death got up, claimed that he wanted to declare his conversion to Islam, and then stabbed the sultan with a poisoned dagger. 2

The sultan died on 15 Sha'ban 791 AH at the age of sixty-five. Among his last instructions were obedience to his son Yazid and the abandonment of torturing captives. The Gregorian date is derived and does not appear in the source. An additional source is needed to confirm the date. 2
