Overview
al-Mas'udi relates that Abd Allah ibn Ali rebelled against al-Mansur and called to himself those with him from the people of Syria, claiming that al-Saffah had made the caliphate for whoever undertook to kill Marwan. 2
The war
al-Mansur sent Abu Muslim against him, and there were many wars between them at the Monastery of the Blind Man (Dayr al-A'war) in the lands of Nisibin. The two sides endured for months and dug trenches. Then Abd Allah was routed and went with his close companions to Basra, where his brother Sulayman ibn Ali was. 2
