Overview
In 66 AH Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad marched with the armies of Syria toward Iraq. When he reached Mosul (Mosul), he met Ibrahim ibn al-Ashtar, who commanded the cavalry of Iraq on behalf of al-Mukhtar, at al-Khazir. 1
The outcome
The book describes the battle as a great one. Ibn Ziyad was killed in it, along with al-Husayn ibn Numayr, Shurahbil ibn Dhi al-Kala' and notables of Syria. 1
al-Khudari reports that the victory went to Ibn al-Ashtar, and that the troops of Syria suffered killing and drowning. 2 He holds that their rout came when the vein of partisanship between Qays and Yemen throbbed. 3
